Faster, Safer, Greener
But that process just got faster, safer, greener and more efficient with the addition of a Peterson Horizontal Grinder which can process as much as 95 tons/360 cubic yards of green waste per hour! The grinder’s horizontal design allows it to grind whole trees at one time rather than just pre-shortened lengths, limbs or stumps like a traditional tub grinder. It also has the power to grind asphalt.
Converting 10 Truckloads of Debris into One Truckload of Mulch
Boasting 18 inches of ground clearance, this grinder is particularly suited for land clearing operations or other applications where mobility and frequent movement is required. A monster of a machine, the Peterson 4710B is more than 52’ feet long during operation, weighs more than 74,000 lbs and requires a specially designed lowboy trailer for transportation to job sites. A powerful 765 horsepower Tier II Catepillar C18 engine combined with Peterson’s three-stage grinding process with an up-turning rotor and large grate area enables the machine to grind waste materials to exact specifications. A quick-change grate system makes it easy to produce a wide variety of finished materials. For example, ten truckloads of organic material can quickly becomes one truckload of mulch!
As excited as he is about the features of this new horizontal grinder, Russell Smith is more excited about what it means for his customers.
“With our ‘18 pieces of iron’ and ‘the blue monster,’ we can do any job from start to finish without needing to hire subcontractors,” Smith said. “This allows us to be in control of the entire process which makes sure the job is done to our standards and helps prevent scheduling problems which can save our customer time and money.”
An advanced radio remote system allows the track hoe operator to control both pieces of equipment simultaneously saving both man hours and equipment hours.
This machine is also helping our customers go green! By mulching the waste material as we go, we prevent tons of green material from entering the landfill saving space as well as dumping fees. There is no need to burn any residual material which preserves air quality.
The mulched material can be spread where it is processed, which stabilizes the soil as well as smothers weeds and undergrowth cutting down on the need for spraying.
